The contrasting elements of Wayward Whiskey’s bottle packaging were intended to coalesce into one cohesive design. San Francisco-based Chen Design Associates designed the packaging to look modern while still maintaining a classic whiskey bottle feel.

The design is intended to evoke the product’s American heritage while also setting it apart from other spirits. Chen Design Associates described the design as “rustic but clean, nostalgic yet contemporary.”

The design features small lightning bolts as a point of detail. The back label contains a brief history lesson along with maker Venus Spirits’ approach to each style of whiskey.

For example, the single malt label describes how the whiskey is aged in American charred oak barrels and matured “to unruly perfection” by Pacific Ocean air. Single malt is available now, with rye and bourbon to come out later this year.

The packaging won Best of Show from the American Distilling Institute Judging of Craft American Spirits, as well as a bronze medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Packaging Competition.
