New York supermarket chain Tops has taken criticism of their store brand to heart and executed a complete overhaul on their private label’s product packaging. The large-scale rebranding includes close-up photos of the packaging’s product alongside eye-catching print and additional photographs or illustrations. Noting a marked growth in store brand sales nationwide, Buffalo News also reports Tops’ inclusion of new flavors and varieties of products in the packaging overhaul. Another smart move by the regional chain: the creation of different tiers of merchandise (e.g. Tops Indulgence ice cream in addition to their standard Tops Premium ice cream). With this addition, Tops brand becomes a viable competitor to higher-end national ice cream brands.
