Nuts About Granola founder Sarah Lanphier has signed a contract with Martha Stewart Cafe in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood to provide her artisan granola. The private label packaging called for will include the name and address of her company, making the transaction particularly significant for Lanphier.
Nuts About Granola brand products are sold at its York, Penna. storefront and at fellow York retailers including Brown’s Orchards and Perrydell Farm Dairy. However, Lanphier said that private label manufacturing comprises about 80 percent of her business – providing sales volume, if not name recognition. Unlike the Martha Stewart Café arrangement, most of Lanphier’s private label customers do not include her company’s name on the packaging. Lanphier said that the endorsement value of the Martha Stewart agreement will add both exposure and prestige to her company.
Lanphier currently has five private label contracts, and others in progress. Her first contract was with Alpina Foods’ U.S. division in Batavia, N.Y. The company contacted her for a test product in 2011.
Nuts About Granola will provide Martha Stewart Cafe with a first order of several hundred bags of granola.
