Sprite has announced new special packaging featuring lyrics from rappers including Drake, Nas, Rakim and The Notorious B.I.G.
The collection, called “Obey Your Verse,” contains lyrics spanning 25 years of hip hop history. The first set of 16 designs feature five selections from Drake, Nas and Rakim, along with a single line from Biggie—“Lyrically I’m supposed to represent.”
Nas remarked, “When I wrote these lyrics, I never imagined my fans would someday have the opportunity to enjoy a can of Sprite and experience my art in a totally original way.”
According to Sprite, this campaign harkens back to the brand’s early days. The company claims to have been one of the first mainstream brands to embrace hip-hop when it featured rapper Kurtis Blow in a 1986 TV commercial. Since then, Sprite campaigns have featured hip-hop artists such as Grandmaster Flash, A Tribe Called Quest, Missy Elliott and Fat Joe.
The limited edition cans and bottles will be available through the end of the summer.
