Nestlé Purina Petcare and Ecologic Brands have designed 100 percent recyclable packaging for Purina® Pro Plan® Renew, a natural cat litter. Most of the packaging is made from recycled materials. The friction-fit cap uses no plastic and is also 100 percent recyclable.

How can a container made of recycled newspaper and cardboard hold up to 10.5 pounds of litter? The paper pulp is molded under high heat and pressure to form the container. This thermoforming process promotes internal and external moisture resistance to keep the litter dry.

“Ultimately, the Purina Pro Plan Renew jug delivers a packaging solution that goes beyond addressing one component of sustainability, and instead looks to revolutionize the packaging industry by confronting the entire life cycle of the package,” said Julie Corbett, Founder of Ecologic Brands.

Consumers in many communities can recycle the containers at recycling centers, at curbside, and soon, in specialized bins at PetSmart stores.
