Novelis announced a new food packaging product made from 100 percent recyclable aluminum. It belongs to the company’s evercycle portfolio, a collection of high-recycled-content aluminum products. SCS Global Services certified the product to contain 100 percent recycled aluminum—90 percent post-consumer content and 10 percent customer manufacturing scrap. Novelis asserted that most food containers are made of primary-based alloys or pre-consumer content, ranging from zero to 50 percent recycled aluminum. The company also said that its post-consumer recycling diverts waste from landfills, thereby making it “true recycling.”
Phil Martens, Novelis president and chief executive officer, said:
“The launch of evercycle marks an important next step in our long-term commitment to sustainable aluminum product innovation. Our evercycle aluminum appeals to customers who want to demonstrate their dedication to sustainability and attract the growing numbers of environmentally conscious consumers.”
evercycle is currently commercially available in North America. Novelis expects its availability to expand as demand grows.
