Nestlé Waters North America has launched a new recyclable packaging for its resource® Natural Spring Water. According to the company, the remodeled bottle—available in 700-milliliter and 1-liter sizes—is made using 100 percent recycled plastic (rPET). Nestlé Waters expects the bottle to increase recycling rates.
The Stamford, Connecticut-based company plans to focus on the uses of rPET, promote the importance of bottle-to-bottle recycling and increase awareness and demand for recycled plastic. Nestlé Waters North America plans to increase PET beverage bottle recycling rates to 60 percent by 2018, the company said.
PCR PET producer CarbonLITE Industries Founder and CEO Leon Farahnik said:
“Bottle-to-bottle recycling is one of the most effective ways to reduce landfill waste, reduce the carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and control the environmental impact of sourcing and creating new packaging. Currently under one third of PET materials in the US are recycled and brands such as resource, with their commitment to 100 percent rPET packaging, represent a pivotal shift in the industry to improve recycling standards among corporations and consumers.”
