General Mills has filed a patent for a flexible packaging solution for its refrigerated dough products. The appeal of the new packaging is its cost-efficiency. Made from polymeric or paper-based flexible packaging, it eliminates the need for current materials – wound cardboard and metal end closures. Headspace would be reduced to less than 2 percent, slowing dough expansion once removed from packaging – an improved result.
