Tetra Pak surveyed some 6,000 consumers across 12 countries and discovered that the majority favors eco-friendly beverage packaging.
According to the company, more than 75 percent of the surveyed consumers claimed that environmentally-friendly packaging influences their decision to buy a beverage. Two-thirds said they bought environmental products despite higher costs. Two-thirds also said that they avoid specific products or brands due to their negative impact on the environment.
Across the 12 countries, environmental packaging had a stronger influence on consumers in developing markets like China, Turkey, Brazil and India than in developed countries like the UK, US and Japan. According to Tetra Pak, more than 60 percent of those surveyed in India, China and Turkey said they “always” search for environmental impact on beverage packaging—a contrast to the less than 25 percent in the US, UK and Japan.
Tetra Pak environment vice president Mario Abreu said:
“Consumers expect companies to do more on environment these days, and are increasingly checking information about a product before they buy. As a partner to the dairy and beverage industry, Tetra Pak is committed to helping customers meet consumer expectations by looking at the whole life of the products we supply.”
