Diamond Packaging has achieved zero manufacturing waste to landfill status through its greenbox sustainability initiative and is working towards the goal of zero waste to landfill overall.

One important means of achieving this goal was through increasing its recycling rates of paperboard, plastic, and metals to 98 percent. The 2 percent waste left over is sent to Covanta Sustainable Solutions Group Energy for Energy-from-Waste or put towards fuels blending. In addition to Covanta, Diamond established energy partnerships with Cascades Recovery and Advanced Waste Solutions. With their aid, Diamond has been able to monitor manufacturing and recovery methods to find improved solutions for all waste streams. CEO of Cascades Recovery Albino Metauro told Package Design Magazine:

“Diamond Packaging is a genuine example of what industry can and is doing with their discarded materials to minimize the impact on the environment and society.”
