Hummus Plus, LLC has launched a custom packaging design for its hummus and chicken product. The company packaged the ingredients in two separate containers so that the product could be eaten as either a snack or a meal.

According to David Gacom, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Hummus Plus, A Pure Mediterranean Foods Company, a combination of consumer trends inspired the product’s design. He said that these trends include the popularity of Mediterranean restaurants serving high-quality, fresh foods and the hummus category growing at a CAGR of 15 percent-plus over the last five years.

Hummus Plus teamed up with brand strategist Design Partners to create the custom packaging design. EasyPak LLC provided the two microwaveable polypropylene containers. The team added a napkin and a spork, held together by a plus-shaped paper board sleeve. Gacom said that the plus-shaped label differentiates the brand.

Healthy, on-the-go snacks inspiring new packaging ideas seems to be a trend. Earlier this year, Mediterranean Snacks introduced a new version of its tapaz2go snack packaging, which contains two ingredients in separate containers: a 50-gram cup of red pepper hummus and a 0.9-ounce bag of Snyder’s mini pretzels. Wholly Guacamole introduced 100-calorie mini products, which the company designed to deliver multiple usage options and be consumed on-the-go.
