Japanese studio Nendo has designed creative fruit packaging for Shiawase Banana. Nendo designed a long, yellow sticker that might go unnoticed if not for the green logo in the center. The consumer pulls down the sticker just like he or she would a banana peel. The message underneath the sticker tells the banana’s story.

Nendo said it wanted to create packaging that would complement this environmentally-friendly banana. For that reason, in lieu of bulky boxes or packaging material, the company created the double-layered sticker to provide an interactive and rewarding experience for the consumer.

Nendo’s website reads:

“Adhering to the requirement to use only organic fertilizers and the strict restriction on the use of pesticides, they became the first bananas to be awarded with an impressive 2 Stars at the International Taste and Quality Institute (iTQi) Superior Taste Awards in Belgium. The name ‘shiawase banana’ was derived simply from the fact the fruit makes all banana growers happy, drawing on the word ‘shiawase’ which means ‘happiness’ in Japanese.”

Nendo also designed a paper bag to go along with the banana. The bag is made of a single sheet of paper in the shape of a large banana leaf. The description of Shiawase Banana on the reverse side encourages consumers to reuse the bag, Nendo said.
