The Atlanta Business Chronicle has reported that The Coca-Cola Co. has filed a trademark for something called ‘Peelpack’, leading to speculation that bio-based packaging may be on the horizon. One possibility suggested is that citrus fiber may be incorporated into drink boxes and cartons. As the creator of the recently-released PlantBottle, a recyclable plastic bottle made from plants, The Coca-Cola Co.’s interest in adopting sustainable packaging makes these theories at least likely. Meanwhile, the company has not commented on the specific nature of the trademark’s intended use.
