It would seem that transparent packaging appeals to customers as a means of visual quality inspection; one survey showed that clear packaging contributes to the illusion of better, fresher taste. Unfortunately for retailers, capitalizing on that thinking can be something of a double-edged sword, as clear packaging can pose a risk to the food’s presentation through oxidation and prove tricky for certain products. As the Wall Street Journal explores, brands like General Mills Inc. and Clif Bar & Co. have a lot on their plate in executing what can be a majorly daunting task.
