The Clorox Co.’s minimalist packaging for the Brita pitcher has won Ameristar’s 2014 Sustainable Package Award. Held in place by a carton tray bottom and shrink film, the unique package design allows for full on-shelf visibility while drastically cutting down on the amount of material used. In Packaging Digest’s interview with Samuel J. Marino, CPP, packaging development scientist at Clorox, he revealed the attributes that he believes made the design such a triumph. They included inspiration from sports ball equipment packaging, brand recognition, lightweight design, and the potential customer’s ability to interact with the product pre-purchase.
