Bioplastic Packaging in the Works for Cosmetics

Aimed at creating a new cosmetics package made out of nanomaterials, The Technological Institute of Plastic and AINIA Technological Centre have launched a new initiative. The main objective of this endeavor is to further their goals of creating more sustainable packaging by creating the “Nanopack”.

Nanomaterial and bioplastic packaging is still quite new, though  the institutes already feel strongly that “nanoclay” helps packaging achieve a higher gas barrier and better mechanical and thermal properties. This allows for a decrease in additives and overall raw materials needed.

Strange as it may sound, potential design plans include molecules derived from the shells of crustaceans.
