Ballantine’s Scotch whisky has launched a limited edition bottle designed by album artist Leif Podhajsky. The Australian artist said he found packaging design inspiration by exploring Scotland and understanding the process behind making Scotch whisky.
Podhajsky created designs for three gift packs. The Ballantine’s Neoprene Finest Sleeve takes inspiration from fire and water. The Ballantine’s 12 Year Old Tin represents the Scottish landscape. Finally, the Ballantine’s Finest Tin draws inspiration from Scotch whisky.
The designs are the first in the Ballentine’s ‘Artist Series.’ The Chivas Brothers-owned brand plans to collaborate with a different artist once a year to create limited edition package designs.
“The Artist Series project with Ballantine’s gave me an opportunity to create a design that consumers can explore. They can see how the whisky-making process, the rugged Scottish landscape and the complex character of Ballantine’s whisky is reflected in the packaging artwork.”
The Ballantine’s Artist Series Limited Edition Gift Packs will be available worldwide starting from the end of October 2015.
Several other liquor brands have recently worked with artists to create unique limited edition package designs. Hennessey commissioned artist Ryan McGinness to create a glow-under-blacklight design for its V.S Limited Edition cognac. Artist Verónica Villarreal Sada drew packaging design inspiration from Mexican heritage to create a limited edition collector’s tin for Patrón Tequila.
